FS Gallery
FS Gallery was a full-screen image gallery that automatically scaled images with kept aspect ratio to fill the browser background, spiced up with a Flickr search engine, thumbnails, captions and a preloader.
Features (as originally published, 2009)
- Flickr search using jQuery and JSON
- Full screen with kept ratio using CSS only (some JS for IE6)
- A png raster to even out up-scaled jpegs
- Thumbnails with loader indicator and a hover effect showing a bigger thumb
- Preloader loads the large images one by one for super-fast viewing
- Fetches the biggest image from Flickr using their API
- Caption that can be turned on or off; navigate by clicking either half of the image
Unlike the other Lab projects, FS Gallery was never released as open source. The demo was published here under copyright, with no documentation. The announcement lives at the archived blog post. Its ideas were folded into the fullscreen features of the modern Galleria.
